Compulsory
• Waterproof jacket & trousers - ‘waterproof’, not ‘water-resistant’
• Walking trousers - not jeans
• Walking boots & socks, used before so you know they are comfortable
• Rucksack / backpack - 30 litres capacity is ideal
• Dry bags - plastic bags are ok
• Technical base layer & warm fleece/jumper - not a cotton sweatshirt
• Warm hat & gloves - a neck-buff is also useful
• Sun hat in warmer weather
• Spare warm layer - keep in your pack in a dry-bag
• Food & drink - minimum 1.5l of fluid. 2-3 litres on a longer walk
• Personal first aid kit - personal medication, blister plasters & pain killers
• Head torch - remember spare batteries
• Mobile phone & money - mix of cash and card

• Energy snacks - slow energy release granola bars and jelly-beans are good!
• Walking poles
• Sun cream
• Flask
